Frontal / Relic in silver
Part of PALIOTTO (Antependum or Antependio, the front of a tablecloth or altar decoration) made of silver, mounted on silk cloth, surrounded by floral motifs. Relic donated by Pope Pius IX on the occasion of the Episcopal or Priestly Jubilee of an unidentified Don Francesco, Monsignor, which took place on January 3, probably 1867. Shaped plate, in silver, depicting the passion of Christ, with the shroud in the center with the Holy face of Jesus, surrounded by floral motifs, whips of sorghum, the scourge, the centurion's spear and the sponge soaked in vinegar, and below the pincer and the hammer used for the crucifixion. Mounted on a red velvet passepartout with silver friezes at the corners, all within a wooden cornet. On the back a small oval cartouche, with the description of the relic written in black ink
