silver base in the form of a rectangular tray, on its flange a relief motif of an orchid branch, silver inner gilded inkwell lid in the form of a ball on a hinge, decorated with a relief motif of an orchid, square prominent inkwell of colorless polished glass, inside the inkwell a brass insert with a small glass container for ink; dimensions: tray: 20 x 21 cm, dimensions of the inkwell: 14.5 x 9.5 x 9.5 cm, weight of tray: 377 g, pr. 0.800 silver, German hallmarks after 1886, mark of goldsmith company Wolfers Frères (3 five-pointed stars inscribed in a triangle), signature of goldsmith and trading company: Goldschmidt (Ernst Goldschmidt, Cologne).

Wolfers Frères - one of the most famous goldsmith companies in Belgium, its products are among the most outstanding examples of Art Nouveau and Art Deco art. The interior of the company's Wolfers Frères store in Brussels was designed by Victor Horta. The silver pieces of the presented inkwell bear German hallmarks and the signature of the German goldsmith company E. Goldschmidt of Cologne, with which one of the sons of Wolfers Frères' founder worked for a time.
